College is a time of new beginnings and challenges for many young adults. They meet new people, try new things, and sneak in a little fun. When classes are over and job interviews start, many new grads have trouble finding a work-life balance.
Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Redfin, and Zillow show the best cities for young professionals looking to maximize their work-life balance. Claiming a full fifty-percent of the top spots, the Midwest is a hotspot for young professionals. Five of the top ten cities are found in the Midwest. Above average wages, an exciting nightlife, low unemployment rates, and competitive housing costs are a few of the reasons these cities are among the most popular. While cities like San Diego and Philadelphia may offer slightly higher wages, the cost of living in the Midwest is significantly lower. The extra money gives young professionals an opportunity for more travel and luxuries while still having enough leftover to contribute to retirement accounts.
Looking for cities with a little more scenery? The Bay area in Northern California, consisting of both San Francisco and Oakland, made the list. Both cities have have numerous world-class venues as well as boasting a high walkability score. Whether you prefer indoor or outdoor activities, there is something for everybody in these cities.
